So I haven’t written anything here in a long while and I would not be surprised if no one will read this.

So Showcase of Talents is approaching, and I am almost positive I am going to sing a song for it. It is something I have never done before, and I must admit I am damn nervous. At first I was going to play it safe and just sing a silly song, but then I realized that is something I always do. All of my roles have been comedic relief or just downright ridiculous characters (not like there’s anything wrong with that, it’s hella fun) but I just thought it would be a breath of fresh air to finally do something serious. So I have decided to sing the Tony award winning song I Dreamed a Dream from Les Miserables.

The tragic character Fantine sings the song as a lament, dying and wondering where her life went wrong. It’s a powerful song sung by a powerful character and for some reason I just cannot let it go.

I was so close to picking an Aragorn quote due to my personal love for him and his entire character.

But the last minute, I switched it.

I suddenly reflected on how much Harry Potter as a whole means to me. I’m sure just about everyone who reads my blog knows about my grandfather. He read the books to me every night when I was a child up until he passed away from cancer. I remembered him telling me his favorite character was Sirius. At first I didn’t think anything of it, because I was a Harry fangirl since the age of five. Now that I think about it, my grandfather is like the Sirius to my Harry. Even though he’s gone, I know that he’ll always be there with me, until the very end. He was one of my biggest inspirations and really like a father to me.

So, I just found it fitting to put Sirius’ very last words in the series as my quote.
I know some people won’t get it, but it means a lot to me.

Interpretation: I believe this song is about the time in almost everyone’s life where they feel hopeless and lost. Since this band is known as being subtly Christian-based, it is arguable it could even be a conversation between God and man.

However, I like to see it as a song of letting go or even coping with the, sometimes incredibly dark, reality that is set before our lives. It’s a song about finding hope and overcoming obstacles. Whether those obstacles be love, life, or even death. It’s about accepting the things that are bound to come, whether we want them to or not.

But that’s just my opinion. What do you guys think?
